DIY Chalk Paint Recipe

I’m so excited to be sharing my favorite chalk paint recipe with you today! This is definitely a keeper! Over the years I’ve tried many products and I keep coming back to this recipe! It dries quickly without being clumpy. It is seriously the BEST! Here are the supplies needed.

A Wilton Squeeze Bottle– These are super cheap and make the mixing/applying process so easy!

A Small Paint Brush– This one is my favorite! It fits so nicely in your hand!

Chalk Paint Powder– This is the secret ingredient! You can do many projects using this! A little goes a long way!

My most recent chalk painting project was this small end table/nightstand that I turned into a baby dresser! I used this method to paint it and then just swapped out the knobs! I used knobs from Home Goods, but these are similar crystal dresser knobs! This gave it a whole new look!

BEFORE AFTER

Mixing up your own chalk paint is so great because it gives you the freedom to choose the exact color paint you want. We chose “Quaint Peche” by Sherwin-Williams and had Home Depot color match it for us. It is a beautiful pale pink/peach color!

If it’s your first time trying chalk paint I want to give you a little tip…… *Don’t worry if the first coat is looking bad! It always does! After the second coat it will look so much better! I promise! I usually only do 2 coats of paint. For this small dresser I used just 1 cup of paint for the whole project! That’s about the size of a paint sample! A little goes a long way!

Once the piece is completely dry, it is important to finish it off with clear wax! It gives a smoother finish while still keeping the matte look of the chalk paint! I like to apply this with an old cotton t-shirt used as a rag.

There you have it! I hope this little tutorial was helpful! I would love to see your projects if you decide to try this recipe!
