Farmhouse Playhouse Makeover

The playhouse is finished and we couldn’t be more EXCITED! Two years ago I searched craigslist to find a great deal on a second hand swing set! I found this one and fell in love with it! It had everything I was looking for! Three swings, (since we had 3 kids at the time), a raised play area, and a slide! It even had a trapeze bar on the back side which we could easily switch out for a 4th swing if needed! It was perfect! It was just a little weathered, but at $250 it was a smoking deal and I couldn’t pass it up! I had big dreams of painting it white and turning it into a little cottage farmhouse for our backyard! The kids loved it from day one! It especially came in handy during quarantine. Since the parks were closed it provided us time to work on it together!

It was a fun family project! We took off the rock wall and closed up the front opening. Then Jon built a shelf to create a little cafe window below.

He continued to add a wood plank along the side to raise the whole bottom section up a bit. Now that all the structural changes were made, it was time to paint!

The kids loved painting with us, but half-way through we realized it would be much faster to use our paint sprayer! Good call by hubby!!! The paint sprayer made it so quick! I definitely recommend using one on any big project like this! We used Behr Premium Outdoor paint in the color Ultra white. It took about 2 gallons of paint to cover it! I am really loving the color!

Next, it was time to decorate! My favorite part! I got a little creative using mostly items we already had around the house. Since I couldn’t go out to physically shop for things during the pandemic. I ordered a few things I wanted online. Thank goodness for online shopping! Jon built a window awning frame using some scrap wood he had in the garage. I covered it with a farmhouse style tablecloth and used a staple gun to attach the fabric. The funny part was that I initially covered it upside down! It was really meant to go a different way, but I’m so happy with the way it turned out! I feel like it was meant to be! Isn’t it amazing how things just always have a way of working out! We used two inexpensive brackets to attach the awning to the playhouse.

Here is a little peek at the inside. We decided to install pavers on the ground since we had them left over from another project. Our kids love to pretend they are cooking for us! We have had this pink play kitchen since our oldest was a toddler and it’s held up so well! Jon made wooden kid chairs and I found this sweet little white pot at the target dollar spot! Score! I just placed an ikea plant inside of it. We can’t wait for our friends to come over and play!

I was also able to find the cutest dinner bell online but it’s not here yet! We will be adding it to the front window opening of the playhouse when it arrives. I know our kids will enjoy ringing the bell often and hopefully it won’t upset the neighbors! Thankfully we have the best neighbors!

I’m pretty sure this was my favorite project to date! Seeing the smiles on our girls’ faces made it totally worth the effort!

I love looking out of our windows at night and seeing it all lit up! The Solar lights were a perfect addition! We stapled them to the playhouse making sure on windy days that they will stay put! No need to turn them on and off! The sun does that!

I hope you enjoyed our playhouse transformation! I will leave you with a little before and after! It’s so fun to see how far it has come! Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you peace and love always!
